NDT Personnel Training
NDT personnel to perform tests must be certified qualified at an appropriate level in accordance to ISO 9712 (EN 473) for each method. The personnel certified two level, Level I and Level II.
Level I
Level 1 certified operator carry out tests according to written procedure and under supervision Level II or III personnel.
Level II Responsibilities
- Adjusting the NDT equipment
- Testing performed
- Storing the test results in terms of written criteria and classification
- Reporting of results
Level I certified personnel can not be held responsible for use the test method or technique to be selection and evaluation of test results.
Level II
Level II certified operators perform non-destructive testing according to established or recognized procedures.
Level II Responsibilities
- Select proper test technique, equipment and probes
- Set up, calibrate and verify the equipment
- Perform testing and interpret the results as per applicable standards
- Have knowledge of the scope and limitations of UT
- Be familiar with production processes of the test material and knowledge of type and location of expected defects
- To develop UT technique for testing a particular job
- Prepare test report for i) Accept ii) Reject iii) Rework
- Prepare written instruction for Level I
- Guide and check test results of Level I operators
- Responsible for care and maintenance of the NDT equipment
Level III Responsibilities
- All responsibilities of a Level II test technician.
- Analyzes, interprets, and evaluates test data and prepares technical reports for delivery to the customer.
- Establish test and inspection techniques and/or procedures
- Interpret codes, standards, specifications and procedures.
- Interface with customers regarding test requirements and results.
- Determines conditions under which tests are to be conducted and sequences and phases of test operations.
- Directs and exercises control over operational, functional, and performance phases of tests.
- Confers with scientific, engineering, and technical personnel to resolve testing problems such as product or system malfunctions, incomplete test data and data interpretation.
- Analyzes and interprets test data and prepares technical reports for use by engineering and management personnel.
